Wood availability update

Moperc Congas: The Final Maple Era Before the Mahogany Shift

Have you ever dreamed of owning Moperc congas in maple—or ash? That window has just about closed.

We’ve officially taken the last conga orders for ash, and we’re now using the final slabs to complete existing builds. From this point forward, ash and walnut congas are discontinued, and only a small number of maple congas remain available.

⚠️ If you absolutely want to complete your ash conga set, contact us immediately. We may be able to work something out with the limited spare ash wood we have left.

Meanwhile, Moperc bongos remain fully available in all tonewoods, including ash, maple, walnut, and a wide range of exotic species. They continue to offer the same customizability, craftsmanship, and sonic beauty you've come to expect.

We’re Entering the Mahogany Era

Going forward, Brazilian mahogany will be the only wood used for Moperc conga builds. This isn’t an ending—it’s a creative and strategic pivot. We’re focusing our attention on one of the most revered tonewoods in Latin percussion to elevate consistency, simplify workflow, and refine our voice.

A Mahogany Moment

We recently acquired a stunning bundle of Brazilian mahogany—enough to complete a bold new chapter in Moperc's legacy.

  • Poncho Sanchez Signature Series — Originally limited to 100 sets, we’re extending this series to 200 total, now built exclusively in Brazilian mahogany.

  • 30th Anniversary Series — Still capped at 100 sets (only 30 left!)

This wood is gorgeous—full of golden streaks, tiger striping, and unmistakable tone. These aren’t just instruments—they’re heirlooms in the making.

Why the Change?

1. Wood Optimization
Moperc congas are built exclusively from quarter-sawn staves—beautiful, acoustically rich, and extremely demanding in terms of yield. Ash, long a staple, has become cost-prohibitive and inefficient for this kind of cut. Brazilian mahogany arrives in wider, straighter slabs—ideal for this precise, handcrafted work.

2. Bongos Are Booming
Bongos are now Moperc’s most in-demand product—and for good reason. They allow us to work with smaller cuts, exotic woods, and striking pairings that would be unsustainable for congas. Ash, walnut, maple, cocobolo, leopardwood—you name it, we can still build it into a Moperc bongo.

The Final Drop: Maple Congas Only

Ash and walnut are now part of Moperc’s conga history. We're finishing the last remaining ash orders, and only maple is still available in very limited quantities.

Bongos: Infinite Possibilities, One Maker

As the conga line evolves, Moperc bongos remain a creative playground. Every set is handcrafted and available in our full spectrum of tonewoods—including ash, maple, walnut, Brazilian mahogany, and rare exotics.

Recent exotic woods include:
Zebrano • Movingui • Leopardwood • Padauk • Ebiara • Cocobolo (only one available)

Because bongos use less wood and can accommodate irregular cuts, we can offer short runs, experimental pairings, and even wild finishes.

Signature woods (always available):
Brazilian Mahogany • Maple • Ash • American Black Walnut
